Go behind closed doors on Heritage Open Days

Heritage Open Days is England's largest festival of history and culture, when buildings and places that are normally shut or charge for entry open free of charge. It is run by the National Trust and powered by local organisations and volunteers, as England's contribution to European Heritage Days.

How to start

  1. Read the National Trust's Heritage Open Days page to see how the festival works.
  2. Search the event list on the Heritage Open Days website, which the Trust says is updated from June.
  3. Book ahead for any tour that needs a reserved place, as small venues fill quickly.
