Take something broken to a Repair Café, or go as a fixer
A friend has invited you to do this with them.
At a Repair Café volunteers sit down with you and mend the thing together, so you leave with a working toaster and a new skill. If you are handy with a needle, a soldering iron or a bike, they want you on the other side of the table.

Someone who has done it
The Tinker Team in this story is a volunteer repair group at a Cincinnati recycling centre rather than a Repair Café, but the idea is the same.
How to start
- Find your nearest Repair Café on the official map.
- Take one broken item along and stay to watch it being fixed.
- If you can mend things yourself, ask the organisers about volunteering.
Where to go
We opened these links on 21 October 2026 and found them to be what we say. Dates, places and prices are on the official page, where they stay up to date.
Plan this
Pick a day, or a month, and we will set out how to get ready, step by step, with a date and a reason for each. The hard part of a day out is the timing: the right season, tickets and getting there. The plan watches the calendar for you.
