Take a Nordic walking lesson
A friend has invited you to do this with them.
Nordic walking looks like strolling with ski poles, but the pole work is a technique in its own right and takes a lesson to get the hang of. Once you have it, any park, towpath or hill track becomes somewhere to practise.

How to start
- Use the Find a Nordic Walk page on the British Nordic Walking site to find an instructor or a group near you.
- Book a beginner session with a trained instructor and ask whether poles are lent for the lesson.
- Wear comfortable walking shoes and leave your own trekking poles at home until you have been shown the technique.
Where to go
We opened this link on 7 October 2026 and found it to be what we say. Dates, places and prices are on the official page, where they stay up to date.
Plan this
Pick a day, or a month, and we will set out how to get ready, step by step, with a date and a reason for each. Courses and classes have start dates and can fill up, so the plan begins with finding and booking one. Kit comes after the first session, once you know what you need.
