Play a proper game of croquet

Croquet on a club lawn is a tactical game, a long way from knocking balls about on a bumpy garden. The basics can be picked up in minutes, yet there are several distinct forms of the game, from golf croquet to association croquet and the American six-wicket sport.

How to start

  1. Look up a club on Croquet England's Where to Play page or in the United States Croquet Association club directory.
  2. Ask the club about a taster or beginners' session, where mallets and balls are provided.
  3. Wear flat-soled shoes, which clubs ask for to protect the lawns.
