Learn a ballroom or Latin dance

A waltz or a cha-cha is a small piece of choreography you improvise with another person in time to music, and a handful of steps is enough to get round a floor. Group classes take people who arrive without a partner.

How to start

  1. Search the ISTD Find A Dance Teacher directory by genre, choosing Modern Ballroom or Latin American, or look for a USA Dance chapter near you.
  2. Join a beginners' group class, which is the cheapest way to try several dances.
  3. Go to a social dance once you know a few steps, and practise for a few minutes most days.
