Become a telephone befriender
A friend has invited you to do this with them.
Age UK's Telephone Friendship Service matches a volunteer with one person on the strength of shared interests, and the two then talk for half an hour every week. The whole friendship is conducted by phone through the charity's own system, so you never exchange numbers and never meet.

How to start
- Read the Age UK telephone friend page and check you can keep the same weekly slot for the twelve months the charity asks for.
- Sign up through the Age UK friendship site and complete the references, identity check and interview.
- Finish the online training and read the volunteer handbook before your first call.
Where to go
We opened this link on 8 October 2026 and found it to be what we say. Dates, places and prices are on the official page, where they stay up to date.
Plan this
Pick a day, or a month, and we will set out how to get ready, step by step, with a date and a reason for each. A habit needs a fixed slot in the week more than a plan, so the planner gives it one and checks in gently.
