Build a length of dry stone wall

A dry stone wall stands without a trace of mortar, held up by nothing but the way each stone is chosen and placed. Local branches of the Dry Stone Walling Association run beginner courses, usually over two days, where qualified instructors teach the core techniques on a real wall.

How to start

  1. Read the Dry Stone Walling Association's beginner training courses page.
  2. Find your nearest branch on the Association's website and ask for its next beginner course.
  3. Ask the branch what to bring, and expect to need sturdy boots and work gloves.
